Lifesaver nodded. ”Yes, retraining. She won’t willingly go to anyone else for medical assistance. And when she was dragged in here last time, if she had attempting to fight in that condition, the very least that would have happened is her shoulder joint completely snapping, making her arm useless. For a Combat Reploid, that’s a death sentence. I’m offering you retraining so that I can see your skills and refine them.”

garish-and-green:

“‘Or something like that’? That’s not something that you should be guessing at.” Granted, Lifesaver would be considered Grade S Medic [Viral and Diagnostic] specialization, but Lifesaver Units weren’t really graded in the more traditional sense….

“Well I dunno why no one else did, but as for me the damage was just so done for that I couldn’t do much. I worried that I wouldn’t have enough parts, or the right ones, since her model is a bit older. Its stupid, I know….”

“This should have been repaired correctly the first time. Actually, Courtlyn should have allowed me to examine and repair this when I offered the first time. But I didn’t invite you here to reprimand you. I invited you here to offer you retraining.”

Now that nothing was pent up, Ben moved in his sleep to cling to Lifesaver as always.
lifesaversoffice:

“‘Or something like that’? That’s not something that you should be guessing at.” Granted, Lifesaver would be considered Grade S Medic [Viral and Diagnostic] specialization, but Lifesaver Units weren’t really graded in the more traditional sense. ”How did Courtlyn get her shoulders damaged initially?”

She made a noise of frustration. “Sorry!! I’m getting all nervous and forgetful!” Lifesaver was just soooo proffesionaaaalllll….it was enough to make her feel antsy. “Grade A General Reploid Repair. Not robotic—because there’s a bit of a difference between soulless robots and ordinary reploids.” she clarified. “As for ol’ Coco, she ran into an enemy with a giant axe and just about got cut in half. From what I’ve seen, the base joint caved and caused the freezing. From there, various medics-including myself-made separate attempts to fix it, but obviously to no avail. Thus I was there to fix it every time it froze, but if she were in battle, she just had to live with it.”

“This damage is extreme, why didn’t you just replace the shoulder joint? That’s what I had to do. Nanites can repair damage, yes, but when the parts are just too far gone, you have to replace them. And each repair that attempted to fix this only made the situation worse for her in the long run. You have to realize what’s repairable and what needs replacing.” Lifesaver was mildly reprimanding her. If she was that experienced, she should have known better.

At the flick, Ben arched with a scream. Oh god... the overload of the emotions swelling and bursting all at once in him HURT. Ben screamed again, and after only taking a short breath he screamed again, tears freely pouring down his face, He screamed several more times as all the pent-up frustration, anger, and sadness finally had a way out, and once the feeling finally slowed, he went limp, tears still leaking out as he went offline, head drooping as he shut off.

Maddie ran out of Lifesaver’s room, frantically looking for Ben when she found him in the walkway, Helen sitting nearby. ”Helen-bell! What happened?”

“Mama needed to let her emotions go. She needs to sleep now.”

Helen’s tone was a bit concerning, but Maddie nodded. ”Lifesaver’s in recharge right now, he’ll be fine. But I’ve disabled his spinal column so that he can’t move. He has to stay bedridden for a week. Can you help me keep an eye on him?” Maddie leaned over to pat Helen on her head.

Helen perked up. ”Of course I can Aunt Maddie! So long as Daddy will be OK, that’s fine!”

“Such a good girl!” Maddie beamed at her niece as she picked up Ben, taking him to his and Lifesaver’s room. ”I’ll watch over them as they sleep. You go on to bed, I’ll call you when they’re awake.”

“OK! Thank you Aunt Maddie!” And with that Helen got up and went to bed for the night.

Maddie, meanwhile, plugged Ben into his side of the bed and tucked them in. Lifesaver was laying on his back, tucked in and far into Hibernation. She left them as they rested.

They had a bit of a recovery ahead of them.

"That anger only causes problems..." His eyes burned and his throat was stinging, but the emotions weren't letting loose.

Helen looked at Ben with concern. Something was wrong. ”Let me look.” She closed her eyes, her hand still on his shoulder, as she wirelessly hacked into Ben’s mainframe. It wasn’t hard—technically, she had a harder time accessing Lifesaver and Maddie’s “isolated Network”—and within seconds she saw the problem.

There was an emotional “block” keeping Ben from expressing his emotions. He must have forced it up and didn’t quite know how to take it down. But that’s OK, she could help him with this. With a mental flick, the wall was gone, and the emotions could be released.

RPer/Character QA Time!
She chuckled. “We don’t let Ami have or even touch coffee. But it definitely sounds like your home is filling up!” She sat down casually, placing the files and her half-finished coffee—which seemed to consist more of chocolate than anything—on the table nearby. “As for where…?” she sighed. “I’ve gained knowledge from many places. Most of it I was just programmed with, though.”

“Do you have a specific specialization that you were programmed with?” Lifesaver started to look over Courtlyn’s case file. He recognized the shoulder damage that he had repaired, which was why he wanted to talk to her.

“Grade A General Robotic Repair or something like that. Since then I’ve learned more and improved, but still no Grade S yet. But I’m not sure what it would be called now, everyone has their own rating system.”

You've been busy all day. Everyone who has hands in the clinic is fiddling with something, or treating something or modifying treatments. The list goes on. It's late at night when you are finally done. However, you get a call from Ben. It seems you have forgotten the "night out" you were going to have with Ben today. You've been planning it for months. Ben's at home with the kids and is seething.
“Ah, thank you. Don’t worry, a little cream and sugar has never done any harm. I do normally drink my coffee black, but on occasion when Helen’s made me coffee she… I think she puts coffee in it. Oh, Helen’s my daughter, the rest of our little ones consist of two Pokemon, a pit bull puppy—not ours, but X’s, you’ll possibly meet him later—and a rabbit. So, yes, we’re a fairly full house…” Lifesaver sipped on the coffee as he lead her into the living room, which was rather spacious indeed.

“Please, have a seat. We’ll go over what we can in the relative comfort of the living room. To start, where were you formally trained?”

"I'm not weak." He gritted his teeth. "There's just no reason to. It won't solve anything." At that moment, though, the painful feeling surged again, making him cringe and lean against the wall.

Helen tilted her head as she watched Ben lean against the wall. ”So, this pain that you’re feeling right now, which is a direct result of you shoving your emotions back, is not a problem? And who’s going to call you weak? I won’t, although, quite frankly, I do think you’re being very stupid right now.”

"There's no way to..." He trailed off. "Besides, I'll be fine." He walked forward to pick Helen up.

Helen stepped back, evading Ben’s reach. ”There is a way. You just see it as the weaker choice. You don’t want to be perceived as weak, but by whom, I can’t tell.”

"He should be concerned with himself." Ben muttered. "I'm fine."

“You’re lying. Worse than Daddy was. You’re shoving your emotions aside, and it’s causing damage. Pretty soon, if you don’t release those emotions, you’ll be in worse condition that Daddy is right now.”

Ben froze, and frowned. "Helen, you should be in bed right now."

Helen looked up at Ben, a bit more stern in her expression. ”Why are you purposely restricting your emotional reactions? For all intents and purposes, you’re acting like a Drone. Daddy already feels horrible, and now you’re not even acting like yourself. He’s more concerned with your mental state than his health.”

Ben, meanwhile, was on his way to Helen's room when he had to stop and lean against the wall, a very painful feeling surging up in his chest. He squashed it down as he'd been doing, and checked his systems. Nothing. Even his emotional matrix checked out fine. He shook it off and continued to his daughter's room.

When Ben was just within a few strides of her room, Helen, toy puppy in hand, walked out. The look in her eyes was… cold.

“You do realize, Benedict, that you are doing far more damage to Daddy that the burned-out core did, correct?”

Back To Basics (@garish-and-green)

garish-and-green:

Lifesaver nodded politely as he let her in, but mentally he was scouring his memory; he had a hard time understanding what she was saying. Her accent was unfamiliar to him. ”Ah, may I ask where you originate from? Your accent is… unusual to me.”

“Austin, Texas!” she said cheerily. “Of course, I go all over the place, chasing after Coco and such, but that’s where I’m from. Should I take my boots off?”

Lifesaver paused before looking down at her boots. She wanted to take them off? Well, he couldn’t think of a reason why she couldn’t… ”You may remove your boots if that makes you more comfortable. But I must warn you that we have little ones running around, and they aren’t mindful of where they leave their toys.”
